Youth Program
At the
NTC, we're extending educational opportunities beyond the
workforce to reach younger generations. Our goal: to encourage
academic excellence, alleviate teen problems and guide career
selection through programs that supplement the normal educational
system.
Regional
Training Center Youth Programs
Children of all ages are having fun and learning, too, at
UAW-DaimlerChrysler Regional Training Centers. The centers
offer a variety of classes and summer activities for children
of UAW-DaimlerChrysler workers and youth from their communities.
Check out what's available
at a center near you.
It's
not MTV, but it is The Real World
High school students get a reality check on the world of work
in the Youth School-to-Work
Program taught at the UAW-DaimlerChrysler
Technology Training Center. Open to dependents of UAW-DaimlerChrysler
workers, the six-week course introduces students to the skilled
trades and the latest computer-aided design technology used
in the auto industry. It also teaches essential job skills,
such as math, customer service and business communication.
Youth
Movement
Youth Beyond Borders -- Jugend ohne Grenzen -- already has given
more than 250 teen-agers the chance to experience the ever-changing world. The
exchange program is open to 15- to 17-year-old children of active DaimlerChrysler
workers in metropolitan Detroit; Windsor, Ontario; and northern and southern
Germany.
Each family makes a six-week
commitment over two years: three weeks one summer for their child to travel
overseas, and three weeks the other summer to serve as a host family.
For more information or
to request an application form, call the program hotline at 248.399.6160 between
9 a.m. and 5 p.m. (EST) Monday through Thursday.
