Occupation Health Research

Let's face it, factories can be hazardous places with all the machinery and chemicals and such. Over the years, we've learned a great deal about how to make UAW-DaimlerChrysler workplaces safe. And we've worked hard to make sure that people get the proper health and safety training.

Research Topics

Here are some of the projects sponsored
by the NTC to date:
  Ergonomic Stressors and Surveillance
  Reducing Cutting Fluids Exposure
  Engine Plant Mortality
  Machining Plant Morbidity
  Heart Disease
  Enhancing Occupational Injury Surveillance
Suppression of Machining Fluid Mists by Polymer Additives
  Economic Evaluation of Hearing Loss
  Stamping Plant Mortality
  Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis
Hazards Not Addressed by Routine Industrial Hygiene Sampling
  Non-routine Auto Plant Exposure Assessment
  Characterization of Fine Particles
  Characterization of Fine Particles
Ergonomic Considerations in Parts Distribution Centers
Early Intervention Techniques to Reduce the Incidence and Severity of Musculoskeletal Disorders
  Metalworking Fluid Control Techniques

Still, there are a lot of unknowns - like what are the effects of long-term exposure to a given substance, or of repeating the same motion over a long period of time. So, in addition to our extensive Health and Safety Training programs, the NTC supports a number of occupational health research projects. We've enlisted the help of a Scientific Advisory Committee to identify projects with particular relevance to UAW-DaimlerChrysler facilities. The committee is made up of four internationally recognized occupational health experts who also monitor funded research projects.
