Safe at Home Emergency and Backup Care Program
The
National Training Center has teamed up with Safe at Home to provide UAW
employees with quality in-home care service
for employees' emergency needs.
This pilot program (currently only available
to employees residing in the Detroit area) is designed to help employees
when their regular caregiver is unavailable or a child is too sick to attend
day care, allowing the employees to go to work.
Best of all, children will
receive this care without having to leave their homes.
Employees are eligible
for 80 hours of service each calendar year. If both parents work for DaimlerChrysler
and are represented by the UAW they are eligible for 160 hours of service
in each calendar year.
The National Training Center pays 80 percent
of the cost for this service. Co-payments for care may range from $3.40
to $5.10 per hour, and a four-hour minimum visit by caregivers is required. The
provider will bill workers directly for their 20 percent fee.
Caregivers also are carefully screened
through driving-record checks, thorough reference checks, yearly physicals,
fingerprinting and FBI criminal-history checks. They
are trained in CPR, First Aid and have formal training in child development.
For additional information, or to pre-register
a child, call Safe at Home at 1.800.790.7233.
